1. Universal Care Instructions (All Products)

1.1 General Washing Guidelines

Before Every Wash:

  • Remove any loose pet hair with lint roller or vacuum
  • Check for damage (tears, loose threads, broken zippers)
  • Close all zippers completely
  • Remove inner mattress or foam inserts (if applicable)
  • Shake out debris

Water Temperature:

  • Always use cold or lukewarm water (30°C/86°F maximum)
  • Never use hot water - causes shrinkage, fading, and material damage

Detergent:

  • Use mild, gentle detergent only
  • Amount: Less than you'd use for regular laundry
  • Never use:
    • Bleach or bleach-alternative products
    • Fabric softeners (reduce absorbency and water resistance)
    • Harsh chemical cleaners
    • Enzymatic cleaners (unless specifically treating stains)

Washing Cycle:

  • Gentle or delicate cycle only
  • Lower spin speed preferred (reduces stress on seams)
  • For heavily soiled items: Pre-soak in cold water for 30 minutes before washing

Machine Load:

  • Wash bed covers alone or with similar items
  • Don't overload washing machine
  • Large beds may require commercial-size machines

Frequency:

  • Light use: Every 2-4 weeks
  • Heavy use: Weekly
  • Accidents/soiling: Immediately

1.2 General Drying Guidelines

Air Drying (Preferred Method):

  • Lay flat on clean, dry surface
  • In well-ventilated area
  • Away from direct sunlight (causes fading)
  • Away from direct heat sources
  • Flip halfway through drying
  • Ensure completely dry before use (typically 24-48 hours)

Tumble Drying:

  • Low heat only (if care label permits)
  • Never use high heat - damages materials, causes shrinkage
  • Remove promptly when dry to prevent wrinkles
  • Add clean tennis balls or dryer balls to help maintain loft
  • Check every 20 minutes to prevent over-drying

Critical:

  • Product must be 100% dry before use or storage
  • Damp products develop mold, mildew, and odors
  • If unsure, allow extra drying time

1.3 General Maintenance

Daily/Weekly:

  • Shake and fluff to restore loft
  • Brush off loose pet hair
  • Check for any damage or wear
  • Rotate bed to distribute wear evenly

Monthly:

  • Vacuum thoroughly before washing
  • Inspect seams, zippers, and construction
  • Rotate bed 180 degrees for even wear
  • Deep clean if needed

Storage (if not in use):

  • Ensure completely clean and dry
  • Store in cool, dry location with good air circulation
  • Don't compress or fold for extended periods
  • Keep away from dampness, pests, chemicals
  • Use breathable storage bags (not plastic)

1.4 What to NEVER Do

Never:

  • Use hot water (causes shrinkage and damage)
  • Use bleach (damages fabric and color)
  • Use fabric softener (reduces functionality)
  • Machine dry on high heat
  • Dry in direct hot sunlight for extended periods
  • Store damp or partially dry
  • Iron or steam (damages materials)
  • Dry clean (harsh chemicals damage fill)
  • Use harsh chemical cleaners
  • Submerge products with foam in water

2. Bolster Beds - Specific Care

2.1 Construction Understanding

Your bolster bed has:

  • Removable outer cover (upholstery fabric)
  • Internal mattress with polyester fiber fill
  • Raised bolster walls filled with polyester wadding

2.2 Washing Instructions

Outer Cover:

  1. Unzip and remove cover completely
  2. Close zipper before washing
  3. Machine wash cold water, gentle cycle
  4. Mild detergent only
  5. Air dry flat (preferred) or tumble dry low
  6. Ensure completely dry before replacing

Inner Mattress:

  • Spot clean only - do not machine wash
  • Use damp cloth with mild soap for surface cleaning
  • Wipe waterproof layer if present
  • Allow to air dry completely

Frequency:

  • Cover: Every 2-3 weeks (or as needed)
  • Inner mattress: Spot clean as needed, full wash not recommended

2.3 Maintaining Bolster Shape

Weekly:

  • Fluff and shake bolster walls vigorously
  • Punch and reshape walls to restore height
  • Redistribute wadding by kneading the walls

After Washing:

  • Bolster walls may compress during washing
  • Manually fluff and reshape while damp
  • Reshape walls while drying
  • May take 2-3 washes to fully restore loft

Normal Expectation:

  • Bolster walls will compress over time with use
  • This is normal - not a defect
  • Regular fluffing maintains shape longer
  • Compression up to 30% in first year is expected

2.4 Special Considerations

Large Dogs:

  • Rotate bed weekly to prevent one-sided compression
  • Fluff walls more frequently (2-3 times per week)

Multiple Dogs:

  • Wash more frequently (weekly recommended)
  • Inspect for wear more often

3. Orthopedic Beds - Specific Care

3.1 Construction Understanding

Your orthopedic bed has:

  • Removable outer cover (upholstery fabric)

  6. Or tumble dry low if needed

Foam Core:

  • NEVER machine wash or submerge in water
  • NEVER wring or twist
  • Spot clean only with damp cloth
  • Mild soap solution if needed
  • Blot (don't rub) to clean
  • Air dry completely in well-ventilated area (may take 48-72 hours)

Frequency:

  • Cover: Every 2-4 weeks
  • Foam: Spot clean only as needed (monthly inspection)

3.3 Foam Care and Maintenance

Daily/Weekly:

  • Allow foam to "breathe" - occasionally remove cover for a few hours
  • Rotate bed 180 degrees monthly for even compression
  • Keep in well-ventilated area

After Unpacking New Bed:

  • Allow foam to fully expand (24-48 hours)
  • Don't use until fully expanded
  • Initial "new foam" smell dissipates within days

Storage:

  • Never fold or compress foam for extended periods
  • Store flat if possible
  • If must store: loosely roll (never fold)
  • Keep in dry location

Normal Foam Behavior:

  • Foam compresses under weight - this is normal
  • Takes several hours to regain full height after use
  • Slight indentation where dog sleeps is expected
  • Rotate regularly to distribute compression

What to Avoid:

  • Don't place in direct sunlight (degrades foam)
  • Don't expose to extreme heat (radiators, heaters)
  • Don't expose to moisture (leads to mold)
  • Don't use vacuum cleaners directly on foam (can damage structure)

3.4 Odor Management

For New Foam Smell:

  • Remove cover and air out in ventilated area
  • Typically dissipates within 3-7 days
  • Speed up by placing near (not in front of) fan

For Pet Odors:

  • Sprinkle baking soda on foam surface
  • Let sit 2-3 hours
  • Vacuum thoroughly with upholstery attachment
  • Air in sunlight for 1-2 hours (not longer - UV damages foam)

4. Waterproof Beds - Specific Care

4.1 Construction Understanding

Your waterproof bed has:

  • Removable outer cover (upholstery fabric)

  • Air dry completely (dries quickly - 1-2 hours)

Internal Filling (if removable):

  • Spot clean only
  • Do not submerge in water
  • Allow to air dry completely if exposed to moisture

Frequency:

  • Outer cover: Every 2-3 weeks or after accidents
  • Inner shell: Wipe clean weekly, or after any liquid exposure

4.3 Maintaining Waterproof Function

To Preserve Waterproofing:

  • Wipe inner shell with damp cloth only (no harsh chemicals)
  • Don't use abrasive scrubbers or brushes on waterproof layer
  • Don't fold or crease waterproof layer repeatedly
  • Don't expose to extreme heat
  • Ensure completely dry before reassembly

What Damages Waterproofing:

  • Harsh chemicals or cleaners
  • Bleach or chlorine-based products
  • High heat from dryers or direct sun
  • Sharp objects, claws, or punctures
  • Repeated folding at same creases
  • Prolonged exposure to UV light

Testing Waterproof Function:

  • Pour small amount of water on inner shell
  • Water should bead and not penetrate
  • If water soaks through, waterproofing may be compromised

If Waterproofing Fails:

  • Check for punctures or tears (may be covered under warranty if manufacturing defect)
  • Check if failure is from damage (not covered)
  • Contact us for warranty assessment if needed

4.4 After Accidents

Immediate Action:

  1. Remove outer cover immediately
  2. Wipe waterproof shell with clean damp cloth
  3. Use enzymatic pet odor eliminator on outer cover if needed
  4. Wash outer cover immediately
  5. Ensure both components completely dry before reassembly

For Stubborn Odors:

  • White vinegar solution (1:1 with water) on waterproof shell
  • Wipe, then rinse with clean water
  • Dry completely
  • Baking soda on outer cover before washing

5. Chew-Resistant Beds - Specific Care

Frequency:

  • Outer cover: Every 2-3 weeks
  • Inner shell: Wipe clean weekly
  • Full inspection: Weekly (check for chewing damage)

5.3 Chew-Resistant Layer Care

Regular Inspection (Critical):

  • Check inner shell weekly for any tears or punctures
  • Look for bite marks or stress points
  • Inspect seams and high-stress areas
  • Early detection prevents complete failure

Maintaining Chew Resistance:

  • Keep surface clean (attractants like food smells encourage chewing)
  • Don't use scented cleaners (may attract chewing)
  • Wipe with plain water or mild unscented soap only
  • Ensure completely dry (dampness may encourage investigation)

If Outer Cover Is Damaged:

  • Remove damaged outer cover immediately
  • Continue using bed with just inner chew-resistant shell
  • Inner shell is fully functional without outer cover
  • Purchase replacement outer cover or leave as-is

If Inner Shell Shows Damage:

  • Document immediately (photos)
  • If within 90 days and meets criteria, file chew warranty claim
  • If outside 90 days or doesn't meet criteria, assess if bed is still safe to use
  • Discontinue use if tears create safety hazards (choking, ingestion)

5.4 Special Considerations

Two-Layer Use Options:

Option 1: Complete Bed (Recommended)

  • Outer cover + inner shell + filling
  • Maximum comfort and aesthetics

Option 2: Inner Shell Only

  • Remove outer cover if damaged
  • Use just the chew-resistant inner shell with filling
  • More durable, less attractive to chewing
  • Cooler sleeping surface

Option 3: Protective Cover Over Existing Mattress

  • Use inner chew-resistant shell as protective cover over another mattress
  • Double-layer protection

6. Pillow/Mat Beds - Specific Care

7.3 Maintaining Fur Appearance

Regular Maintenance:

  • Brush weekly with pet slicker brush or wide-tooth comb
  • Brush in direction of fur pile
  • Work through any tangles gently
  • Shake vigorously weekly

After Washing:

  • Brush while still slightly damp
  • Fluff fur by hand
  • Allow to fully dry, then brush again
  • Fur may appear flat initially but will regain volume

Preventing Matting:

  • Don't over-wash (breaks down fibers)
  • No fabric softener ever
  • Brush regularly between washes
  • Don't compress for storage

If Fur Becomes Matted:

  • Dampen slightly with water
  • Work through gently with wide-tooth comb
  • Brush in sections

9. Storage Guidelines

9.1 Short-Term Storage (Seasonal, Temporary)

Preparation:

  • Wash and dry completely (100% dry - critical)
  • Inspect for any damage
  • Repair minor issues before storing
  • Ensure no food particles or attractants

Storage Method:

  • Store in breathable cotton bag or pillowcase
  • Never plastic bags (traps moisture, promotes mold)
  • In cool, dry location
  • Away from direct sunlight
  • Good air circulation
  • Off floor (use shelf or elevated surface)

What to Avoid:

  • Damp basements or garages
  • Attics with extreme temperature swings
  • Near chemicals, cleaners, or strong odors
  • Areas accessible to pests

9.2 Long-Term Storage (Months)

Additional Steps:

  • Add cedar blocks or lavender sachets (natural pest repellent)
  • Check monthly for any moisture or odor
  • Air out every 2-3 months
  • Refold in different position to prevent permanent creases

Foam Products:

  • Store flat if possible (don't compress)
  • If must roll: loosely roll, never fold
  • Never compress in vacuum bags

Fur Products:

  • Store flat with tissue paper between folds
  • Or loosely rolled
  • Never compress (permanent matting)

9.3 Returning From Storage

  1. Remove from storage bag
  2. Shake and air out thoroughly (outdoors if possible)
  3. Inspect for any damage, odors, or pests
  4. Fluff and reshape
  5. Wash if stored more than 3 months
  6. Allow to regain full loft before use (24 hours)

10. Troubleshooting Common Issues

10.1 Bed Has Lost Loft/Height

Fiber-Filled Beds:

  • Shake and fluff vigorously
  • Punch and knead to redistribute fill
  • Hang and beat like a rug
  • Wash and dry with dryer balls
  • Note: Some compression is normal (up to 30% in first year)

Foam Beds:

  • Allow to air out without cover for 24 hours
  • Rotate bed
  • May have reached end of useful compression life if old
  • Foam doesn't regain original height - compression is normal over time

10.2 Cover Won't Fit Back On After Washing

Likely Causes:

  • Cover shrunk (washed in hot water or high heat dried)
  • Inner mattress expanded
  • Trying to fit while cover still damp

Solutions:

  • Ensure cover is completely dry
  • Slightly dampen cover to increase flexibility
  • Work slowly, one section at a time
  • Two people make it easier
  • Prevention: Always wash in cold water, dry on low or air dry

10.3 Odor Won't Go Away

After Multiple Washes:

  • Enzymatic cleaner specifically for pet odors (regular detergent doesn't break down organic compounds)
  • Soak in white vinegar solution (1:4 ratio with water) for 2-3 hours before washing
  • Baking soda in wash cycle (1/2 cup)
  • Extra rinse cycles
  • Air dry in direct sunlight (natural deodorizer and antibacterial)
  • Check waterproof layer if applicable (odor may be trapped there)

If Odor Persists:

  • May be in foam or fill (hard to remove once absorbed)
  • May need to replace fill or entire bed if odor is severe
  • Prevention: Wash immediately after accidents, don't let odors set

10.4 Zipper Is Stuck or Broken

Stuck Zipper:

  • Rub candle wax or bar soap along zipper teeth
  • Work zipper back and forth gently
  • Check for fabric caught in zipper
  • Graphite pencil on metal zippers

Broken Zipper:

  • Zipper failures from manufacturing defects covered under warranty
  • Zipper damage from forcing or chewing not covered
  • Contact us for warranty assessment

10.5 Seam Is Coming Apart

Small Separation:

  • May be able to hand-stitch temporarily
  • Note: Customer repairs void warranty

Larger Separation:

  • If within warranty period and not from pet damage, contact us
  • Take photos showing separation
  • May be manufacturing defect if seam failed without stress

10.6 Waterproof Layer Seems to Be Leaking

Check For:

  • Punctures or tears (from claws, chewing, sharp objects)
  • Damage at seams
  • Normal wear over time

If No Visible Damage:

  • May be manufacturing defect
  • Within warranty period: contact us with photos
  • Outside warranty: waterproofing degrades over time with heavy use

10.7 Fur Is Matted or Tangled

Treatment:

  • Dampen affected area slightly
  • Work through gently with wide-tooth comb
  • Brush in sections
  • May not fully recover if severely matted
  • Prevention: Regular brushing, proper washing and drying

10.8 Color Has Changed/Faded

Slight Fading:

  • Normal with washing and sun exposure
  • Not a defect

Severe Color Change or Bleaching:

  • Check if bleach or harsh chemicals were used
  • Check if exposed to prolonged direct sunlight
  • May be warranty issue if occurred without improper care - contact us

11. Safety Guidelines

11.1 Regular Inspection

Check Weekly:

  • Seams for separation
  • Zippers for breaks or sharp edges
  • Fabric for tears or holes
  • Fill for lumping or shifting
  • Any loose threads or components

11.2 When to Discontinue Use

Stop Using Immediately If:

  • Large tears that expose filling (choking or ingestion hazard)
  • Broken zippers with sharp metal edges
  • Seams separated creating access to fill
  • Any damage that could pose safety risk
  • Strong mold or mildew smell (health hazard)

Contact us for warranty assessment if applicable.

11.3 Supervision

  • Supervise your dog with any new bed initially
  • Watch for chewing, digging, or destructive behavior
  • Discontinue use if dog treats bed as chew toy
  • Remove damaged beds immediately

11.4 Choking and Ingestion Hazards

If Your Dog Ingests Bed Material:

  • Contact your veterinarian immediately
  • Note what material was ingested (fabric, filling, foam, zipper)
  • Monitor for symptoms (vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy, difficulty defecating)
  • Keep damaged product for vet to examine if needed

We are not liable for health issues from ingestion. Supervision is owner's responsibility.

12. Professional Cleaning

12.1 When to Consider Professional Cleaning

  • Very large beds that don't fit home machines
  • Severe staining or odor that home methods cannot remove
  • Delicate antique or heirloom beds (if applicable)
  • Products labeled "professional clean only" (rare)

12.2 What to Tell Cleaners

  • Material composition (show care label)
  • Any waterproof components (don't submerge)
  • Foam components (spot clean only, don't submerge)
  • Any stains and what caused them
  • Request cold water and gentle methods

12.3 Not Recommended

We generally do NOT recommend following:

  • Harsh chemicals, as it damages fills and materials
  • Direct sunlight, may lose color over time
  • Ironing as these may destroy or shrink the fabric
  • Hot water wash as it may shrink the fabric

Gentle washing with proper care is best for Prazuchi products.

13. Environmental and Health Considerations

13.1 Allergen Management

For Dogs with Allergies:

  • Wash more frequently (weekly)
  • Use hypoallergenic, fragrance-free detergent
  • Extra rinse cycle to remove all detergent
  • Air dry in sunlight (reduces dust mites)

For Humans with Allergies:

  • Regular washing reduces pet dander buildup
  • HEPA vacuum before washing
  • Fragrance-free products
  • Consider covers you can wash more frequently

13.2 Eco-Friendly Cleaning

Environmentally Conscious Options:

  • Cold water washing (saves energy)
  • Air drying (saves energy)
  • Natural cleaners: white vinegar, baking soda
  • Plant-based detergents
  • Line drying in shade

Our products are designed to:

  • Withstand many wash cycles (long lifespan)
  • Be repaired rather than replaced when possible
  • Use durable materials that don't require frequent replacement

13.3 Sustainable Practices

  • Repair minor damage instead of replacing
  • Spot clean between full washes
  • Hang and air out regularly instead of washing
  • Use full washer loads (wash bed with towels if needed for balance)
  • Reuse and refill when possible (chew-resistant replacement shells, orthopedic foam)

14. Warranty and Care Relationship

14.1 Care Requirements for Warranty Coverage

Following these care instructions is REQUIRED to maintain warranty coverage.

Warranty is VOID if damage results from:

  • Washing in hot water
  • Using bleach or harsh chemicals
  • Machine drying on high heat
  • Not allowing products to dry completely
  • Submerging foam in water
  • Ignoring care label instructions
  • Improper storage leading to mold or mildew

14.2 Documenting Care

For Warranty Claims:

  • Be prepared to describe your care practices
  • We may ask how you've washed and cared for the product
  • Honest answers help us assess if issue is defect or care-related
  • Damage from improper care is not covered

14.3 When in Doubt

If you're unsure about any care aspect:

  • Check care label first
  • Refer to this guide
  • Contact us at support@prazuchi.com
  • It's better to ask than damage the product and void warranty

17. Care Label Symbols Reference

If your product has care symbols, here's what they mean:

Washing Symbols

  • Tub with water: Machine washable
  • Tub with hand: Hand wash only
  • Tub with X: Do not wash
  • Number in tub (30°): Maximum water temperature

Drying Symbols

  • Square with circle: Tumble dry
  • Dots in circle: Heat level (1 dot = low, 2 dots = medium, 3 dots = high)
  • Square with X: Do not tumble dry
  • Square with horizontal line: Dry flat
  • Square with curved line: Line dry

Bleaching Symbols

  • Triangle: Bleach allowed
  • Triangle with X: No bleach
  • Triangle with two lines: Non-chlorine bleach only

Ironing Symbols

  • Iron: Can iron
  • Iron with X: Do not iron
  • Dots in iron: Temperature (1 dot = low, 2 = medium, 3 = high)

Most Prazuchi products have: Machine wash cold (30°), tumble dry low (1 dot), no bleach, no ironing needed

18. Seasonal Care Tips

Summer Care

  • Wash more frequently (sweat, outdoor activities)
  • Air dry outdoors when possible
  • Check for signs of overheating (panting while on bed may mean they need cooler surface)
  • Consider removing outer layers for cooler sleeping

Monsoon/Rainy Season Care

  • Ensure products dry COMPLETELY (humidity extends drying time)
  • Check for mold/mildew more frequently
  • Use dehumidifier in drying area if needed
  • May need to tumble dry rather than air dry
  • Store in dry location with good airflow

Winter Care

  • Less frequent washing may be acceptable (less sweating)
  • Indoor drying takes longer (less air circulation)
  • Fur collection particularly popular in winter
  • Check for static electricity buildup (use fabric-safe anti-static spray if needed)

Final Reminders

Care = Longevity: Proper care extends product life significantly. Well-maintained beds last years; neglected beds fail in months.

When in Doubt:

  • Check the care label
  • Refer to this guide
  • Contact us before trying aggressive cleaning
  • Err on the side of caution (cold water, gentle methods, air drying)

Prevention > Cure:

  • Regular light cleaning easier than occasional deep cleaning
  • Address stains immediately
  • Regular inspection catches problems early
  • Proper storage prevents damage

Your Role: Following these guidelines is your responsibility and required for warranty coverage. We've engineered durable products, but they require proper care to perform as intended.
